Sines Yes We Come!

For the third time more than a hundred hitchhikers are set to take part in The Third European Hitchhiking Week. It will be held in Sines, 160 kilometers South of Lisbon, on the 6th of August 2010, lasting for a couple of days or more.
The first two editions took place in Paris, France on 08-08-08 and in Odesa, Ukraine on 07-08-09. Check out last year's atmosphere in this short video of the event.
Pre-gatherings
Pre-gatherings are also being organized along different routes. They are excellent ways to find a travel-buddy. You can also organise one yourself.

Forum
You can use the forum also to propose playshops, flash mobs, performances and skill-sharing activities. Or to find a travel-buddy.
Location
This year we have a great free camping place in the town-center of Sines, with on our spot camping-space, trees, shade, free toilets, showers, water-supply and a beach only 10 minutes away! Check the exact locations. It is the spot with all the green, and the beach is further North from that point.

1. Recognition sign
Pwuuuha dear travelers,
What about that recognition sign suggested on the pre-meetings ?
Twould be way funnier to carry something unifying, like a same color t-shirt, a sunflower, a watermelon or an ananas. Imagine what's goinon the mind of a driver after the 4th sunflower's hitchhiking guy passed.
That would also help recognition and communication power (some pêople might notice us better if a sunflower hitchhiking article was on his newspaper)

hell yeah, i like the idea! i think it should be an object (t-shirt is to lame), but maybe something which does not decay that fast. i guess heat and travelling around do not so much good to neither sunflower, watermelon or pineapple.

I like the wind stuff. But that would be around 5€ muh ?
A cucumber is 0,5€ easy to find and edible at the end of the day.
Hitchhiking the thumb up and the cucumber/windstuff up the head like an airport landing guideworker ?
What do you think ?
5. Fabric Straps
We had an idea in some of the Berlin meetings of using a very recognisable kind of fabric to make colour straps and tie them around any of our bags or arms etc and then the drivers would also recognise this. I am looking wether I have the time/ressources to prepare some of these for the Barcelona Pre-Gathering!
We also wanted to stencil some symbol or words on it.
Of course the inconvenient would be that not all the people would go to Barcelona and things like a cucumber can be bought everywhere, but it could be a nice souvenir for everyone in sines.
On the other hand I am not sure if a woman trying to hitch with a cucumber in her hand would be the least insinuating thing to do. Maybe I prefer the sunflower, but its hard to keep it fresh and its not cheap.

Always the eyes on the pragmatic side muh ? You are probably right, I didn't thought the cucumber could encourage disaster, and last macho experiences in Madrid gives you reason.
I won't be in barcelona because of grandpa 80's birthday but i do LOVE the colored straps idea. I'll make some as well and bring them in madrid around wednesday.

7. fabric!
That would be my vote. All the same color ribbons streaming in the breeze... Sounds so romantic, unifying, uh, symbolic. It would be inexpensive,, durable and obvious. Getting a logo printed on may be a bit much this time around, but there's always next year.
